Butuan is the capital of Agusan del Norte province and is a trade center for the Agusan river valley-a source of lumber, gold, abaca and copra. Visit Butuan during the Abayan festival, celebrated every last Saturday of July. Join the Butuanons in ethnic games, boat races, and a fluvial procession with over a hundred decorated barotos to honor the patron saint of Butuan river, St. Anne.
